Continues the gradual recovery of the service after repair of the Superaqueducto while treating a breakdown in Bayamón that affects several municipalities. (Tuesday, June 18, 2026 – Bayamón, Puerto Rico) Vice President of Operations of the Authority of Aqueductes and Sewers, engineer Luis Ortiz Salgado, announced that the process of recovery of the drinking water service in the metropolitan region continues in progress although gradually since after the repair of the breakdown in the 72 inch pipeline of the Superaqueducto in Bayamón, a new breakdown was detected in this same municipality. The official explained that, of the 112,000 subscribers who were affected during the repair works of the Superaqueducto, currently around 13,000 customers from sectors of San Juan, Isla Verde and Piñones, continue to experience from low pressures to disruptions in the drinking water service. The executive vice president that yesterday afternoon, during the recovery process, the team of the metropolitan region identified a large-scale breakdown on a 48-inch transmission line located in Bayamón, which leads water to the Finca Rosso 2 pumping station. As a result of this situation, sectors of the municipalities of Guaynabo, Caguas, Gurabo, Juncos, San Lorenzo and Aguas Buenas will be experiencing interruptions in the drinking water service while the repair works are completed. “System recovery continues to progress for some customers in the Metropolitan Region. However, this new event we are facing has slowed down the process in some areas. Our staff has been working tirelessly since yesterday afternoon to complete the necessary repairs and continue to restore service to our people,” said Ortiz Salgado. To access the affected area, brigades of the corporation worked during the night of yesterday and the early morning of today paving the way through field terrain to locate the exact point of the failure. “We know the impact these situations have on our communities and we understand the frustration of those who continue to face disruptions in the water service.Our commitment is to continue working with sense of urgency until completion of this repair and return operational stability to the system,” added the vice president of operations. While the work continues and the recovery of the service, Acueductosins active drinking water distribution logistics in coordination with municipalities and collaborating agencies to meet the affected areas.
